
Celebrate GCEF Projects in the Park!
Fun Filled Day in the Park
Saturday, Oct. 14, 11 am – 3pm
Central Plaza, McGolrick Park
Join the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund (GCEF) for the 2nd annual OpenHouseGCEF — a fun-filled day for all ages. OpenHouseGCEF will celebrate McGolrick Park as a centerpiece of life in Greenpoint and feature many of the exciting projects GCEF is funding that are making our community a healthier, safer, and “greener” place to live.
Schedule of Activities
11:00 am – 2:00 pm: Dogs of McGolrick Park “Meet-up” and Contest at the McGolrick Park Dog Run! Enter your furry companion to take a prize in categories like… Best Eyes, Highest Jump, Fastest Fetch, Waggiest Tail, Friendliest, Biggest and Smallest Dog. Judging is at 1:30pm.
Noon: Join a Bird and Tree Identification Walk with For the Birds/Greening Greenpoint! Listen to a story-time of popular children’s green picture books with the Greenpoint Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.
1:00 pm: Participate in a Scavenger Hunt to plant daffodil bulbs around McGolrick Park with MPNA.
1:30 pm: Join the Green Out Of Grey: Neighborhood Walk with NYC Soil & Water to learn about greening industrial spaces in Eastern Greenpoint. Rain or shine!
2:00 pm: Listen to a story-time of popular children’s green picture books with the Greenpoint Library.
All day Activities:
Listen to the sound of jazz from the Nicki Adams Trio
Make a craft from herbal teabags to wildflower seed packets and necklaces, from coloring environmental pictures to creating paper airplanes in the shape of bird wings
Kids can come by, design a robot and take it on an underwater mission
Play hop-scotch or tic-tac-toe and be part of creating a big map of environmental projects in Greenpoint
Get a photo of yourself in a pollinator (think bee!) or flower mask
Pick-up a free plant
Peddle a bike to make compost or applesauce
Get up and personal with a touch tank of critters from Newtown Creek
Hope for blue skies, the event will be cancelled in the event of rain!
