Fall Equinox Jazz Concert

After an excellent turnout of families and locals alike at our August Jazz Concert, Jesse Lynch is bringing The Vortex back to McGolrick park to celebrate the fall equinox with a night of jazz music. Local pianist Jesse Lynch is known for his Vortex Jazz Series, a secret monthly event held in his loft in the industrial section of Greenpoint. The Vortex brings together rotating sets of jazz musicians performing both new compositions and jazz standards in an intimate, casual setting. Jesse will be joined by Stan Killian on sax, Moppa Elliott on bass, and Matt Smallcomb on drums.

Cinderella Samba is a contemporary twist on the classic “Cinderella” fairy tale. The CityParks PuppetMobile production sets the timeless tale in the lush landscape of Brazil, where, thanks to the help of her fairy godmother, Cinderella attends Rio de Janeiro’s biggest Carnival gala and dances the samba with Prince Paulo himself. After Cinderella is forced to flee the gala just before midnight, the prince sets out to find the mystery woman who stole his heart, in hopes of marrying her.

The lively production features an original commissioned musical soundtrack that brings samba center-stage; handcrafted Carnival festival floats on parade; and one-of-a-kind marionettes donning their most vibrant Carnival costumes, created by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater in Central Park.

Kids Day!

Sunday August 13th, 10am

A fun day filled with activities just for kids. Music by Mil’s Trills, classes by Science Baby, and programs by the New York Park Rangers.

Mil’s Trills is an interactive series of performances for families with young children ages 0-4. Enjoy original quirky tunes played by Mil’s Trills Amelia Robinson on the electric ukulele.

Science Baby will host 30-45 minute classes centered around an original picture book based on a scientific theme. As we follow the story we pause to explore the science hands-on. Ages 0-6. limit to 20 kids each class. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.
