Composting Workshop with Our Temenos, October 5, 2025

In honor of City of Forest Day, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of NYC’s urban forest, Sunday, October 5, was action-packed in McGolrick with the lineup including a composting workshop by the ecological landscaping company, Our Temenos.

Vanessa from Our Temenos led a session that discussed the basics of composting—an initiative designed to help divert NYC's organic waste from landfills and reduce carbon emissions that harm the environment.

Vanessa showcased compost at different stages and provided an overview of various methods and equipment for composting at home or in a community setting.

She also discussed managing a compost system effectively and the science behind understanding soil, decomposition and how compost benefits soil health.
