Family Bird Walk + Scavenger Hunt, June 8 2025
To kick off our first International Children’s Day event, we welcomed Local Nature Lab back to McGolrick Park for a family-friendly bird walk. Our knowledgeable bird guides, Loyan and Akilah, began by talking with our ‘Lil Friends about the types of birds they were hoping to see, explained how to use and adjust their binoculars, and did some warm-up exercises that included singing and turning their hands into little birds!
With a large group rivaling the McGolrick Bird Club’s Saturday walks, our guides took their time walking through all the quadrants of the park, helping the children spot - both visually and audibly - McGolrick’s avian friends. The children were able to see various species, including the mourning dove, European robin, and swallows.
A custom McGolrick Bird Scavenger Hunt helped keep the group focused and added to the camaraderie as the group made their way around the park.
We loved seeing so many new Nature Walk participants on their first time birding - a big passion here in McGolrick! Thank you to Loyan and Akilah for such a fun event - we appreciate Local Nature Lab’s continued support of McGolrick Park!
Private support for McGolrick Nature Walks is provided by City Parks Foundation and Partnerships for Parks through the NYC Green Fund.
